How to become a badge maker

THE ZINE

A zine with tips and step-by-step guidance for those who want to celebrate nerdy talents and need a little creative inspiration!

I’ve been embroidering felt badges for a while now, and quite a few people have asked me for tips & tricks to make their own.

I can’t sell the ones I create (it’s way too much work), so I figured I’d give you the chance to make your own!

This zine was printed at a copy shop in Berlin, laser-printed on 120gsm semi-glossy paper.

It’s A6, with a fold-out page in the middle.

There is a piece of water-soluble paper inside to try on your next creation.

MAKING OF

I really like photo-novella aesthetics but I’m not doing fiction (yet), so I figured I could explore working with pictures while doing a “How to” zine.

This is how I made this zine by just staging the making-of of the very meta “Badge maker” badge. Most of the pages are pictures of material, badge element and pieces of paper with text written on it.

Some pages were touched-up on Photoshop, and the central page and the embroidery one were made on Procreate.

The whole zine is made around this central page that you unfold, and where examples of badges are displayed. Most of those badges are worn by friends, lots of them got lost (damn you, “safety” pins!), some of them are mine, few got sold. I just wanted them to stay all together somewhere!

By the way, if you are a Telegram user, you can use them as stickers in your conversations. They are a lot of fun to use!
